The Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter is proud to launch ACSpay, a new program to provide low-cost spaying for female dogs owned by low-income families in Corinth and Alcorn County, Mississippi who may not be able to afford it at regular cost. The cost of $25 will include the procedure and a rabies vaccination.
Backed by the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors, ACSpay’s pilot program will begin Aug. 1 for Rienzi residents only.
Alcorn County Third District Supervisor Tim Mitchell is the chairman for the program. Danyel Smith, administrator for the program, will begin taking applications on Aug. 1, and the spays will begin on Sept. 1.
Several area veterinarians have agreed to participate.
Qualifying residents will be asked to bathe the dog the night before, not feed her after midnight, and bring her to the shelter on Proper Street on the morning of the appointment. The shelter will transport the dog to the participating clinic for the procedure. The owner will then pick up the dog between 4 and 5 p.m. at the shelter.
The shelter is budgeting for about 40 per month. Once the program gets established, the shelter will look at expanding to include neuters and cats.
Multiple supervisors are personally contributing donations to the program. Fundraisers are also planned to help support ACSpay.
Online donations can be made here. Every dollar counts.
